Elton ties knot with recording engineer

IT WAS today in 1984, that pop superstar  Elton John married recording engineer Renate Blauer in Australia.

The Rocket Man rolled out the red carpet, inviting Rod Stewart and Olivia Newton among the guests.

The couple stayed together for four years, although the superstar singer composer later admitted he knew he was homosexual before getting hitched.

Now, with his knighthood and an empathy with the public fostered through his tribute to Princess Diana and years of fame, Elton is a national treasure.

Born Reg Dwight in Pinner in 1947, Elton John remains one of the world’s most popular artists with a career spanning more than 40-years with 40 album releases.

Elton recalled during a television interview, earning £10 a week in the early days with Liberty Records when he and former writing partner Bernie Taupin were churning out the hits that made them an instant success in Britain and America.
