Hackers attempt access to Malta bank

INTERNET access to Malta’s Bank of Valetta was halted after the detection of hackers trying to obtain entry to the system.

All of the bank’s functions – branches, ATMs, mobile banking and even email services – were suspended and its website taken offline, according to the Times of Malta.

Joseph Muscat, the Prime Minister, told parliament that the attack was said to be from abroad. It appeared hackers tried to transfer €13m to a variety of banks before being detected.
