Iran’s women soccer team smashed Palestine 9-0 at the Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Stadium in Al Wakrah, Qatar in a Group C match on Saturday in the AFC Women’s Olympic Qualifiers.
Samaneh Chahkandi granted Iran an early lead, breaking the deadlock four minutes into the game, before Hajar Dabbaghi, Mona Hamoudi, Sara Ghomi and Zahra Ghanbari each added two goals.
With the victory, Iran now stand second in Group C with three points, three points adrift of leaders Chinese Taipei, who have won both matches in the first two rounds.
However, Iran’s whopping goal difference means they have every chance of advancing should they defeat Chinese Taipei in the last group match on Tuesday.
The winner of each group will advance into the third round of the qualification for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
