Nimes took on a 3-1 home win over Rennes in Ligue 1’s rescheduled 27th round match to climb to 10th at the table on Tuesday.
After drawing 1-1 and seeing one player from each side sent off into the break, Nimes were propelled to full points by a pair of spectacular shots from Denis Bouanga and Antonin Bobichon in the second half.
Renaud Ripart headed the hosts in front in the 24th minute on a free-kick from Teji Savanier, which was cancelled out by Herve Lybohy’s 40th-minute own goal.
Both sides were reduced to 10 men just before the break. Nimes skipper Anthony Briancon was shown a red card for a challenge against Hatem Ben Arfa, while his counterpart Benjamin Andre received his second yellow card moments later.
Bouanga fired a turnaround shot past goalkeeper Tomas Koubek 10 minutes after the restart. Koubek also failed to stop Bobichon’s powerful strike outside the box 17 minutes later.
Runaway leaders Paris Saint-Germain, with 20-point advantage in hand, can achieve their title defense with a draw in Sunday’s trip to second-placed Lille.
