Second-placed Napoli defeated Chievo 3-1 in the 32nd round of Italian Serie A on Sunday, delaying Juventus’ bid to clinch their eighth straight title and also sending the Verona side to relegation.
After a 2-0 loss to Arsenal in the first leg of the Europa League quarterfinals, Napoli suffered a three-game losing streak. This victory, thanks to Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly’s header at the 15th minute and two goals from Arek Milik at the second half, ended their jinx with 17 points behind Juventus. Massimiliano Allegri’s side will have to wait at least until next weekend at home against Fiorentina to seal the title with a record-equalling five matches remaining.
Chievo, who won only one game since the season kicked off, will return to Serie B after 11 straight years in the top flight.
In another game, Inter Milan beat Frosinone 3-1, successfully defending its third place with five points ahead of fourth-placed AC Milan.
