Lebanon to start drilling first well by end of 2019: minister

Lebanon’s Minister of Energy and Water Nada Boustani said on Friday that his country will start to drill the first well in maritime Block 4 by the end of 2019, an online independent newspaper reported.

“This is a very important step because it will allows us to discover our oil and gas resources,” she was quoted as saying by Elnashra.

Boustani’s remarks came after her meeting with a delegation from France’s petroleum refining company Total over the specific location of the first well which will be drilled about 30 km away from the shore.

In February 2018, Lebanon signed its first offshore oil and gas exploration and production contracts for two energy blocks with a consortium of France’s Total, Italy’s Eni and Russia’s Novatek.
