Police pull in migrant boat

Marine police have rescued nine unregulated immigrants, who were spotted drifting off the most northwestern spot of the island.

The statement said their boat, which had set off from the Turkish port of Mersin days ago, was carried by the sea currents after its engine broke down.

The nine men, all believed to be Syrian, told the police that they paid a trafficker 2,500 euros each to bring them to the island, where they said they had relatives to stay with.
