Despite newspaper speculation about his future and the possibility of a potential move back to Turkey, Everton striker Cenk Tosun insists that he is perfectly happy at Goodison Park, and he hopes to help fire the Toffees back into Europe next season.
The striker has scored just eight times since joining the Premier League club, but he’s aiming to hit the ground running this time around, and he’ll be desperately hoping that he can get off to a bright start.
Tosun is slowly working his way back to full fitness after picking up an injury whilst representing his country at the end of May. Turkey beat Greece in an international friendly at the Antalya Stadium, but the 28-year old last just 55 minutes before being replaced by Gulven Yalcin.
The early diagnosis was not particularly positive, and some reports even suggested that he had suffered cruciate ligament damage. However, it was later revealed that the forward will not require surgery, and he has already started to step up his preparations for the forthcoming campaign.

Everton will travel to Kenya to face Kariobangi Sharks FC at the beginning of July, and whilst Tosun isn’t expected to be fit enough to feature in this game, he is hoping to play some part in the club’s pre-season activities. He reported back for training at the start of the month, and has also taken to social media to post pictures of his rehabilitation.
The striker found the net on the final day of the 2018-19 season, and will be hoping that he can take that momentum into the forthcoming campaign. He netted just three times in the top flight last year, and admitted that he was disappointed with his paltry return. The Toffees could only finish eighth, and Marco Silva will be hoping that his side can break into the top six this time around. The Portuguese boss saw his side finish three points below newcomers Wolves, and the pair are both priced up at 7/2 in the latest Premier League betting odds to finish in European spots.

Silva will be targeting a return to the Europa League, and Tosun shares his ambition. The striker told beIN Sports that his biggest ambition is to help fire the Toffees back into Europe, as well as getting ‘positive feedback’ from the Goodison faithful. Everton qualified for the competition in 2017-18, but could only finish third in a competitive group containing Atalanta, Lyon and Apollon. They picked up just four points from a possible 18, and were officially eliminated at the end of November.
Everton’s summer transfer business has been steady with the arrival of goalkeeper Jonas Lossl from Huddersfield, and the permanent capture of loanee Andres Gomes from Barcelona. They’ve also managed to offload a number of players including Sandro Ramirez who recently joined Real Valladolid on a season-long loan. Many Everton supporters believe that the club should invest in another frontman, but a combination of Tosun and an ever-improving Dominic Calvert-Lewin could potentially be enough to fire them back into the top six.
Tosun has shown adaptability, and a willingness to work. It may have taken him twelve months to settle in the north west of England, but he appears hungry for success in the English top flight. He could be a real asset to Marco Silva and his coaching staff, and he could be the man to help fire Everton back into Europe this season.
