Nepal woos tourists from India

THE Nepal Tourism Board is organising a program “Visit Nepal 2020” in India to highlight the country’s many tourist destinations, reports the Travel Gazette.

According to new figures, the Indian market continues to be one of the most important contributors of international visitors into Nepal and last year.

The Nepal Tourism Board recorded 200,438 visitors from India.

Last year saw an unprecedented achievement as the Himalayan country witnessed arrival of foreign tourists by more than 1 million in a year for the first time in history.

Form January to November period in 2018, tourism reached 1,001,930 with cumulative increase of 17 percent over the same period in 2017.

Last year, the Nepali government said it to increase annual arrivals of foreign tourists to over 2.5 million in the next five years from less than a million in 2017.

Earlier this year, Nepal’s sole international airport Tribhuvan International stared its reconstruction project of its runway.

Following the immense pressure in runway especially after the earthquake of 2015 and considering the upcoming Visit Nepal Year 2020, the government came up with the upgrade plan, according to the officials.
