Portuguese central defender Jose Fonte has extended his contract with Lille by one year until 2021, the Ligue 1 club has announced.
Having played for Chinese Super League (CSL) side Dalian Yifang, the 35-year-old Fonte joined Lille last summer. He became a key element in Lille’s runners-up journey in Ligue 1 behind Paris Saint-Germain.
“Irreproachable on the pitch as well as outside, in each of his 38 appearances in the Dogue jersey, but also scoring three goals in 2018-2019, Jose Fonte has largely participated in quest of the title with best defense of Ligue 1 by Lille last season,” Lille said in a statement.
“Now at 35, the winner of the 2019 UEFA Nations League confirms his intention to become even more involved in Lille’s project where he is now a central element,” it added.
