Sri Lanka’s Meteorology Department on Monday issued a severe heat advisory for several districts as the sun will be positioned directly above the island country from Aug. 27 to Sept. 7.
In a statement, the department said the worst affected areas where the sun will be positioned directly above are Nainativu, Allaipiddy, Mandaitivu, Kilali, Pallai and Maruthadikulam, in northern Sri Lanka.
“General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions and avoid going out in the heat,” the department said.
Public are advised to “stay hydrated and be in the shade as much as possible,” the department added.
The Disaster Management Center said water bowsers would be dispatched to the worst affected areas.
