1967: Brian Epstein, the man who made the Beatles, is dead.
The Quiet Prince of Pop, who built up a fantastic multi-million – pound show-business empire, was found dead in bed at his London home last night.
He was just thirty-two.
A stunned Paul McCartney, one of the four Liverpool lads who made Epstein their friend could say only: “This is a great shock. I’m very upset.”
Epstein, who always managed to ride the crest of the Merseyside pop wave, was found about 2.45 p.m. by his Spanish butler who went to wake him in his second-floor bedroom at the three-storey terrace house in Belgravia.
