Hungarian carpenter wins gold medal at World Skills event

– A young Hungarian carpenter Krisztian Simon has won the gold medal in the cabinet making category of the 45th World Skills competition, the Hungarian government informed here in a statement.

The statement says that Simon’s victory and an additional 11 medals of excellence, helped the 22-strong Hungarian team reach its best result ever, placing number 20 among the 63 participating countries and regions.

The World Skills competition for young professionals has 56 vocational categories from aircraft maintenance through floristry to web technologies.

“The results show that young Hungarian professionals are performing well in all areas of the economy, just as successful in traditional professions as IT or web technology,” Laszlo Parragh, President of the Hungarian Chamber for Industry and Commerce, told national news agency MTI following the competition.

The competition was organized in Kazan, Russia.
