Large-scale drills with live-fire involving 250 artillery pieces and 1,000 troops have taken place at a training ground in Russia’s northwestern Leningrad region, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement Friday.
During a training battle, the personnel of artillery systems was integrated into a single reconnaissance and fire complex, which allowed to minimize the time between detecting a target and its destruction, the statement said.
The troops also worked out the issues of interaction between artillery units during the conduct of defense maneuvers, it said.
At various stages of the training battle, mortars, self-propelled artillery systems, towed artillery systems and multiple launch rocket systems were used.
From the air, the actions of the artillery were covered by army helicopters, the statement said.
