Lebanon foils smuggling of Syrian, Lebanese nationals to Cyprus

Lebanon’s maritime forces arrested on Sunday a number of Syrian and Lebanese nationals who were trying to illegally escape from Lebanon to Cyprus in a boat, local news website Lebanon 24 reported.

The arrested people were referred to judicial bodies for further investigations and legal procedures, Lebanon 24 said.

A big number of Syrians living in Lebanon are suffering from dire financial conditions, prompting them to try to escape to other countries to seek a better life.

Cyprus has become the destination of maritime smuggling from Lebanon for Syrian refugees to move on to other European countries.
