1974: 93 killed as plane hits mountain

1974: A Trans World Airlines Boeing 727 with 93 people aboard crashed into a top-secret military installation at Upperville, near Washington, yesterday.

There appeared to be no survivors.

Ambulances and rescue teams battled high winds and driving rain to reach the crash scene at the top of the Blue Ridge mountains.

The aircraft TWA flight 514 was on a flight from Indianapolis and Columbus, Ohio, to Washington with 86 passengers and a crew of seven.

A TWA spokesman said the flight was an inaugural service.
