1939: Nazi Germany mount false flag attack at Gleiwitz radio

Heydrich was said to be the Handsomest man i n the Nazi Party. His manner in private life was singularly mild and courteous. It seemed impossible that one so attractive should be the cold-blooded monster which his record showed him to be.

On this day in 1939, Nazi Germany mounted a false flag attack on the Gleiwitz radio station, creating an excuse to attack Poland the following day, thus starting World War II in Europe.

Gleiwitz was to the 1939-45 war what Sarajevo was to the First World War, and is worthy of a niche in history.
