Domestic violence cases highlighted during covid lock down

Across the globe, as Covid-19 cases have surged, so too has domestic violence.

According to Zeta Emilianidou, the Labour Minister, victims of domestic violence in Cyprus include underage mothers.

In a letter to Parliament, she said 14 teenage mothers are currently under the supervision of the Social Welfare Services, two of whom are aged 17, are under legal care and guardianship of the Director of Social Welfare Services.

At the same time, the Minister revealed that during the period of the coronavirus lockdown, the Social Welfare Services received 391 reports of domestic violence.
