Ukraine, NATO to hold strategic command-staff exercises in September

Ukraine will hold Joint Efforts 2020 strategic command-staff exercises with the participation of NATO member states, head of the General Directorate of Doctrine and Training of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksiy Taran said in a briefing in Kiev on Tuesday.

According to Taran, the U.S. and British military units will take part in the exercise to jointly carry out combat training missions. Up to 200 foreign instructors, military advisers and observers from NATO, the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Lithuania and Poland will follow the exercise.

Taran said that the exercises will be held between Sept. 22 and 25 and more than 100 military units, 12,000 weapons and up to 700 units of military equipment will be involved.

According to Taran, other multinational exercises will also be conducted with the participation of units of NATO member countries simultaneously with the strategic command and staff exercises, including the Rapid Trident Ukraine-U.S. exercise and a combat training flight of strategic bombers of the U.S. Air Force with imitation of the application of missile and bomb strikes against critical infrastructure and sea targets.
