Lebanon in dire need for social safety net program: PM

Lebanese Caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diab said Friday that Lebanon is in dire need for a social safety net program amid the outbreak of COVID-19, the National News Agency reported.

“The country is already suffering from the worst economic collapse in its history but the COVID-19 outbreak exacerbates the crisis,” Diab said during the 31st United Nations General Assembly Special Session on the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Pandemic.

Diab said that Lebanon welcomes a comprehensive, inclusive, multidimensional and human-centered response, under the auspices of the United Nations, with the aim of confronting the spread of the pandemic and addressing its various repercussions.
