Israel summons Russian envoy over Iran remarks

Israel’s Foreign Ministry on Wednesday summoned Russian Ambassador Anatoly Viktorov over his remarks in an interview that “Iran does not destabilize the Middle East but the Israel-Arab conflict does.”

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Viktorov was summoned due to his remarks in a Tuesday interview to the Jerusalem Post about the causes for the unrest in the region.

The statement said that the remarks are “inconsistent with the reality in the Middle East.”

The Russian ambassador said that some of his remarks were misquoted and he intends to issue a letter of clarification, according to the Israeli ministry.
