Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri on Wednesday expressed his insistence on investigating the whole truth behind the explosions of Beirut’s port, according to a statement by Hariri’s office.
“I assured the Patriarch of our determination to know the truth, and our affirmation of the right of all Lebanese and in the first place the right of the victims and their families to know who was responsible for the port’s crime,” Hariri said during his visit to Maronite Patriarch Bechara al-Rahi.
Those behind this crime will not be covered and the law will be implemented properly, he added.
Two huge explosions rocked Beirut’s port on Aug. 4, killing at least 190 and wounding about 6,000 others, with most of the Lebanese capital destroyed.
About a week ago, Fadi Sawan, a Lebanese judge, pressed charges against caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diab and several former ministers for their suspected negligence in the explosions.
