Turkey reports 6,289 new COVID-19 cases, 153 deaths

Turkey confirmed on Thursday 6,289 new COVID-19 cases, including 743 symptomatic patients, as the total infections surged to 2,412,505.

The death toll from the virus in Turkey rose by 153 to 24,640, while the total recoveries climbed to 2,290,032 after 6,113 more cases recovered in the last 24 hours, said the Turkish Health Ministry.

The rate of pneumonia in Turkish COVID-19 patients stands at 5.1 percent, and the number of seriously ill patients was 2,704 in the country, said the ministry.

A total of 165,109 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the past day, pushing the overall number of tests in Turkey to 28,032,559.

The country started mass vaccination of health workers against COVID-19 on Jan. 14 after the authorities approved the emergency use of a Chinese vaccine. More than 1,119,000 people have been vaccinated as of Thursday.
