China’s Ding eases into second round at Welsh Snooker Open

China’s top player Ding Junhui won his opener at the Welsh Snooker Open by beating compatriot Lyu Haotian 4-1 in Newport, Wales on Monday.

Ding, 33, only lost the second frame to his opponent who is 10 years younger as the world No. 9 set up another derby in the second round against Pang Junxu.

The 21-year-old Pang swept England’s Allan Taylor 4-0, winning his 14th out of 25 matches so far this season.

The world No. 1 Judd Trump defeated 17-year-old tour rookie Zhao Jianbo of China 4-2, and the defending champion Shaun Murphy also won the first round by seeing off Zak Surety 4-1.
