Uzbekistan certifies Russian Sputnik V vaccine

Uzbekistan has certified the Russian-developed Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine and plans to purchase 1 million doses, authorities said Wednesday.

The Sputnik V vaccine, developed by Russia’s Gamaleya Research Center, has been approved for mass vaccination in Uzbekistan based on the results of third-stage clinical trials, the Uzbek Special Commission to Combat Coronavirus said.

So far, Uzbekistan has registered 79,497 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 622 related deaths.
