More than 4,000 people hospitalized over extreme heat in Uzbekistan

More than 4,000 people have been hospitalized in three days in Uzbekistan due to illnesses caused by continued heatwave since July 17, the Uzbek Health Ministry press service said on Wednesday.

Record breaking heatwave in the Central Asian nation with an extreme continental climate is expected to continue throughout the week and to reach 45 and 47 degrees Celsius in the southern part and the desert areas of the country.

Extreme heat poses a threat to the health of people with chronic diseases, the ministry said, while advising people not to go outside during the day unless necessary, drink more fluids, avoid fatty foods and eat more fruits and vegetables. ■
