Cyprus: Tatar and Christodoulides to discuss earthquake measures

Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar has received the Special Representative of the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General in Cyprus, Colin Stewart.

The visit came ahead of an informal meeting of Tatar and the newly elected Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulidis.

Tatar stated that he and Stewart discussed in detail the essence of the Cyprus issue and the expectations of the Turkish Cypriot and added that today’s meeting would be an “acquaintance meeting”.

Tatar stated that the earthquake issue – a reference to the deadly earthquake with struck Turkey earlier this month – was on the agenda at the meeting with Stewart. The issue is also expected to be on the agenda during his talks with President-elect Christodoulides. According to the Turkish Cypriot PIO, the Turkish Cypriot side will make a proposal on how the two sides can cooperate in case of a possible earthquake in Cyprus.
