Maccabi Tel Aviv beat Bayern Munich in EuroLeague basketball

Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv achieved a 90-82 home win over Bayern Munich in the 25th round of the basketball EuroLeague on Thursday evening.

About 11,000 fans at the Menorah Mivtachim Arena in Tel Aviv saw a close first quarter, ending 18-18.

Controlling the offensive rebound, especially by Isaac Bonga, gave Bayern a 37-28 lead in the 16th minute, on the way to a 44-39 lead at halftime.

The margin then increased to 50-39, but 3-pointers by Wade Baldwin and Lorenzo Brown helped Maccabi cut it to 61-67 by the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Brown and Bonzie Colson inspired Maccabi to turn the game around and secure the home win.

Brown scored 27 points for Maccabi, followed by Baldwin and Colson each contributing 15 points and eight rebounds. Corey Walden scored a team-high 19 points for Bayern.

It was Maccabi’s 13th win in the EuroLeague, while Bayern remained on nine wins from 25 games.

Maccabi will next play an away game against AS Monaco, while Bayern will host Red Star Belgrade, with both games to be played on March 2. ■
