Fire alert at ‘red level’ in Cyprus

The Meteorological Service has issued a new yellow warning for high temperatures in Cyprus.

It is in effect from until five in the afternoon, Thursday.

The maximum temperature inland is expected to rise to 41 degrees Celsius and to 33 in the higher mountains.

In a statement, the Forestry Department also warned that the risk of forest fires erupting  and spreading is at the “red alert” level.
