FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence in Cyprus Anna Aristotelous has been attending the 9th Energy and Environment CapTech Meeting, co-organized by the European Defence Agency (EDA) and the Cyprus Ministry of Defence (CY MoD).
In a speech, she said the gathering highlights the crucial role of the Energy and Environment (EnE) CapTech in providing strategic advice on energy and environmental factors affecting European armed forces.
Aligning with the guidance of member states, she added, this initiative ensures sustainability, resilience, and operational effectiveness in the defence sector.
Aristotelous said the Cyprus Ministry of Defence’s Environmental and Energy Policy is alligned closely with CapTech’s objectives, focusing on energy efficiency, resilience, and sustainability.
‘Our active participation in European defence collaborations fosters knowledge exchange and joint research efforts, reinforcing CapTech’s ambition to develop and implement dual-use green technologies that enhance both defence readiness and environmental responsibility. Through these synergies, Cyprus continues to be a proactive contributor to the EU’s strategic vision of a sustainable, energy-resilient defence sector,’ she said.
Key initiatives include integrating Renewable Energy Sources (RES) in military infrastructure, developing energy-efficient installations, and implementing circular economy practices.
Cyprus’s investments in photovoltaic systems and energy storage solutions contribute to Europe’s energy resilience and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, supporting CapTech’s mission and the EU’s climate neutrality strategy.
