A low-pressure system centered over the Black Sea is affecting Cyprus, with gradually weakening atmospheric pressure expected across the region.
Forecasters said Thursday’s weather will be partly to mostly cloudy, with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms beginning in the west and north before spreading to other areas of the island. The rainfall is expected to ease significantly later in the day.
Winds will shift from southwest to northwest, starting light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, then strengthening to moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort, with occasional gusts reaching 6 Beaufort in exposed areas. Seas will be rough in the west and southwest, and slightly to moderately rough elsewhere.
Temperatures will reach around 24°C inland, 27°C along the southeastern coast, 25°C on other coastal areas, and 12°C in the higher mountains.
Tonight, skies will be mostly clear with patches of increased cloud cover, especially in the western half of the island. Winds will remain from the southwest to northwest but will gradually weaken to 3 to 4 Beaufort. Seas will become slightly rough in the west and north, and calm to slightly rough in the south and east. Overnight temperatures will drop to around 14°C inland, 17°C on the coast, and 9°C in mountainous regions.
On Friday, periods of locally increased cloud cover are expected.
Saturday and Sunday will be mostly clear with occasional cloudiness. Temperatures will gradually rise through Saturday, with little change expected Sunday, remaining slightly below seasonal averages.
