President Nikos Christodoulides on Wednesday outlined sweeping government reforms to support people with disabilities, including a €100 million allocation in the 2026 budget and the creation of a national Patient Advocate.
Speaking at the opening of a Cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace, Christodoulides said the reforms mark the first comprehensive overhaul of disability services in Cyprus.
The funding will be distributed over the next two years.
He said the Cabinet was expected to approve a proposal to offer eight specialized services for people with disabilities — four new and four upgraded — including support counselors, staff training, and workplace assistants.
Christodoulides also announced the anticipated launch of the Patient Advocate, a long-standing demand of the Cyprus Federation of Patients’ Associations (OSAK) and a key campaign pledge.
The president emphasized that these initiatives reflect a commitment to inclusion, dignity, and equal access to services for all citizens.
