Cyprus stressed Tuesday that it will not take part in any military operations amid heightened regional tensions, even as Greece, France and Germany move to reinforce the island’s preventive security measures.

Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis said the Republic of Cyprus “has not participated, does not participate and will not participate in any military operation,” emphasizing that the country’s role remains strictly humanitarian.

Letymbiotis confirmed that four Hellenic Air Force F‑16s arrived in Cyprus on Monday and that two Greek frigates are expected to reach the island later Tuesday. France has also finalized its contribution, sending a frigate equipped with anti‑ballistic and anti‑drone systems. Germany has given an initial positive response to Cyprus’ request for support, with a formal decision pending.

The National Security Council met Tuesday morning under President Nikos Christodoulides to review existing measures and assess regional developments. A press center at the Presidential Palace is now operating daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. to provide continuous updates.

Letymbiotis said there have been no new indications of threats since two drones approached the British Base at Akrotiri on Monday and crashed. He added that the presence of foreign naval forces off Cyprus “in no way” makes the island part of any conflict.

Cyprus has also been approached by several countries — including the United States — about using the island for the evacuation of foreign nationals, he said.

The spokesperson noted that the UK Foreign Secretary and Prime Minister clarified before the House of Lords that the British Bases in Cyprus are not included in any operational planning with the United States.

Diplomatic contacts with Lebanon, Israel and other regional states are ongoing as Cyprus monitors the situation and exchanges information with partners.
