President Nikos Christodoulides said Cyprus remains stable and fully functional despite the regional crisis, stressing that the government continues its work without disruption.

Speaking at a news conference during the trilateral social summit in Brussels, Christodoulides said Cyprus received expressions of solidarity, along with concern over the situation and rising energy costs.

He emphasized that daily life in Cyprus is unchanged, contrary to how some international media have portrayed events. He also reassured investors and businesses that the country is safe and stable, noting that Cyprus is not part of the crisis and referring to what he called a “simple, minor incident” at the British bases.

Christodoulides said the European Union must lead efforts to de‑escalate tensions.

European Council President António Costa described the situation as particularly worrying, noting that an EU member state has already been targeted by an Iranian proxy. He urged all sides to show restraint and give diplomacy a chance, stressing that Iran must never obtain a nuclear weapon.

“We very clearly condemn,” Costa said, “the attacks by Iran against its neighbors, the Gulf states and an EU member state.”

He also called on Israel to engage with the Lebanese government to ensure disarmament.
