Police carried out intensified patrols across Cyprus overnight, conducting targeted crime‑prevention operations that led to nine arrests for various offenses, authorities said.
The arrests involved cases including possession of knives, assault causing actual bodily harm, interference in judicial proceedings, illegal stay, and unlawful possession of duty‑free tobacco products.
During the operations, officers stopped 559 vehicles and checked a total of 674 drivers and passengers. Police also carried out 29 inspections of premises to address delinquency and related offenses.
Traffic checks resulted in 367 citations, including 115 for speeding. Six drivers tested positive in preliminary drug‑driving tests, while two tested positive for driving under the influence of alcohol. Eleven vehicles were seized as part of ongoing investigations.
Police said coordinated operations to prevent and combat crime will continue daily, with reinforced patrols, targeted checks and rapid operational response aimed at protecting the public and maintaining order.
