Cyprus has welcomed Poland’s decision to upgrade its travel advisory for the island, placing the country in Level 1 — a category that calls only for normal precautions.
The deputy tourism minister, Kostas Koumis, described the move as a positive development that strengthens Cyprus’s image as a safe destination.
Looking ahead to the summer season, Mr Koumis struck a cautious tone, saying early signs are encouraging but that much will depend on developments in the aviation sector.
The Association of Cyprus Travel and Tourist Agents also expressed optimism, saying the improved Polish advisory and the high‑profile EU meeting should support arrivals. But it warned that a standing UK Foreign Office notice — which says the possibility of terrorist attacks in Cyprus cannot be ruled out — may weigh on British travellers’ confidence. The United States currently places Cyprus at Level 3, advising its citizens to reconsider travel.
Poland’s latest update, issued on 17 April, places the Republic of Cyprus at Level 1, while urging heightened caution in the island’s north and near the British bases at Akrotiri and Dhekelia.
