Cyprus has paid out more than €12,755,000 in compensation to livestock farmers affected by the foot‑and‑mouth outbreak, officials said Wednesday.
Andreas Grigoriou, director‑general of the Agriculture Ministry, told lawmakers that 80,133 animals have been culled so far. His remarks came during a session of parliament’s Agriculture Committee, which reviewed measures to contain the disease and support farmers.
Lawmakers discussed timely payment of compensation, rules on movement relaxations, replenishment of livestock, halloumi production quotas and income‑loss allowances.
