Cyprus and Egypt have signed a framework agreement in Cairo to advance the development of natural‑gas fields in the Republic of Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone, including the “Cronos” and “Aphrodite” discoveries.
The deal was signed by the two countries’ energy ministers in the presence of Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and Egyptian President Abdel‑Fattah el‑Sisi. Under the agreement, the two sides will begin negotiations aimed at selling Cypriot natural gas to Egypt.
Christodoulides said the goal is to optimize Cyprus’ hydrocarbon development while helping meet Egypt’s growing energy needs. The two leaders held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of an international energy conference.
According to an official statement, both sides reaffirmed their intention to deepen the Cyprus‑Egypt strategic partnership, describing it as a pillar of stability and a model of regional energy cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Christodoulides also met with TotalEnergies’ chief executive and representatives of other major energy companies during his visit.
If you want, I can expand this with background on the Aphrodite field, past Cyprus‑Egypt energy cooperation, or the regional gas market.
