The Cyprus government has reportedly received a “positive signal” from an informal EU Foreign Ministers’ meeting held in Brussels with the participation of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and has now turned its attention to the UN in New York “with the hope that Turkey will contribute to a positive outcome.”
Phileleftheros reported the news under the title “Borrell: Cyprus Issue is the Most Important Issue Affecting Turkey-EU Relations”.
According to the news, Nicosia concluded from the meeting that the EU Foreign Ministers supported the Cypriot government and “made a clear statement that the process of Turkey-European Union relations depends on progress in the Cyprus issue.”
Nicosia also found the assessment of EU High Commissioner Joseph Borrell’s informal EU External Affairs Council meeting “very important in terms of directly linking Turkish Republic-EU relations to progress in the Cyprus issue.”
