The European project MEDCONNECT is aiming to accelerate the restoration of marine and coastal ecosystems in the Mediterranean.
The project is coordinated by the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) and includes 20 partners from across the Mediterranean. It will test 15 innovative solutions in real coastal conditions.
MEDCONNECT is funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe program and brings together 20 Mediterranean-based partners.
“The Project’s goal is to accelerate the restoration of marine and coastal ecosystems, as well as to contribute to the transition to a climate-neutral and competitive blue economy,” organizers said.
Over its three-year implementation, the project will operate through targeted actions across 14 central hubs and three living labs in Croatia, Cyprus and Spain, contributing to the development of 15 innovative solutions to be tested in real coastal conditions. The project will also strengthen regional cooperation, mobilize public and private investment, and support the replication and scaling of successful solutions across the Mediterranean.
MEDCONNECT is one of the new projects contributing to the EU’s mission to “Restore our Ocean and Waters,” organizers said, by building a long-term innovation ecosystem in the Mediterranean that connects stakeholders and communities and promotes the application and scaling of innovative solutions.
