Despite glorious sunshine across much of eastern Cyprus this morning, the meteorological service has issued a yellow warning for severe weather, Monday.

The warning will be in effect until 6pm, and warns of  isolated strong storms during the day.

Locally, the intensity of the rain may exceed 35 millimeters per hour.

Hail is expected to fall in storm areas, while winds will vary and strengthen.

What is a Yellow Warning?

A yellow weather warning in Cyprus indicates potentially hazardous weather conditions that require caution.

These warnings are issued by the meteorology department when weather conditions are expected to be severe enough to cause disruptions but are not extreme. The purpose of a yellow weather warning is to alert the public to the possibility of adverse weather and to encourage them to take necessary precautions.

For example, a yellow weather warning might be issued for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds, or extreme temperatures. During such warnings, people are advised to stay informed about the weather conditions, avoid unnecessary travel, and secure any loose objects that could be blown away or damaged by the weather.
