Eurostat is projecting an increase in cattle and sheep production in Cyprus over the next six months, according to new data released by the EU statistics agency.
Experts estimate the cattle population will rise from 9,620 to nearly 10,000 before dropping slightly to just above 9,000 in the first half of 2027.
Sheep numbers are expected to reach 71,000 in the first half of 2026 and 82,000 in the second half. The goat population is projected to exceed 54,000 in the second half of 2026.
Across the European Union, Eurostat says gross domestic cattle production is expected to total 11.4 million head in the second half of 2026 — about half a million fewer than previously, a decline of nearly 5%.
Goat and sheep production across the bloc is forecast to see an even sharper drop of almost 17%.
