From the time Cyprus’ law on hiring people with disabilities in the broader public sector took effect in 2010 through 2024, only 389 recruitments were made — 291 in the Education Service and just 44 in the Civil Service — according to data presented Tuesday to a joint session of parliament’s Education and Labor committees.
Lawmakers requested updated figures on whether the legislation requiring that 10% of new hires in the wider public sector be people with disabilities is being implemented, and what further steps could improve compliance.
