Cyprus Transport Minister Alexis Vafeadis has presented the ministry’s 2025 performance report, highlighting record air‑travel numbers, major road‑network projects and expanded public transport services.
Vafeadis said the ministry operated with a €517 million budget in 2025 and delivered “substantial results” in areas affecting daily life, economic development and the country’s shift toward modern and sustainable infrastructure.
Airports handled a record 13.7 million passengers last year, a 12% increase from 2024. Sixty airlines operated 160 routes to 41 countries, with 15 new destinations added. Airport fees generated €94 million.
At Limassol port, concession agreements brought €81 million in state revenue, while work advanced on development plans for the Larnaca port and marina in cooperation with Greece’s Hellenic Corporation of Assets and Participations.
Public transport use rose sharply, reaching 28.1 million passenger trips — a 64.5% increase from 2022. The ministry expanded services, added new express routes and extended a pilot on‑demand transport program for people with disabilities.
Major road projects progressed, including the Limassol–Saittas motorway (Phase A1), the Nicosia–Palaichori and Astromeritis–Evrychou motorways, along with upgrades and maintenance across the existing network. Planning continued for strategic projects such as the Polis Chrysochous–Stroumpi motorway and later phases of the Nicosia ring road.
The ministry also advanced green‑mobility initiatives. Under the 2025 electric‑vehicle scheme, 2,429 grants were issued, supporting €21.5 million in investment. A total of 1,820 new electric vehicles were registered and 609 older vehicles scrapped. Accessibility projects for pedestrians, cyclists and people with disabilities also moved forward, along with energy upgrades to public buildings.
More than €85 million was invested in government buildings and equipment. Ahead of Cyprus assuming the EU Council presidency, the ministry completed a €16.5 million press center and an €8.5 million upgrade of the conference center. Other completed works included upgrades to the Spyros Kyprianou sports arena for FIBA EuroBasket, improvements at the national blood center and other state facilities.
The presentation was held at the ICT Academy in the presence of senior ministry officials and the Commissioner for Electronic Communications.
