President Donald Trump reiterated early Sunday that Greenland should become part of the United States, despite Denmark’s prime minister urging him to stop what she described as “threats” about taking over the island.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said, “We need Greenland for national security reasons, and Denmark is not going to be able to handle it,” when asked about the issue.
He initially declined to discuss Greenland, responding, “We can talk about Greenland in 20 days.”
Trump later added that the island is needed “from a national security standpoint,” and claimed the European Union also wants the U.S. to have it.
