Cyprus has sent an official letter to UN Secretary‑General António Guterres detailing what it describes as extensive Turkish violations of its airspace, territorial waters and aviation regulations during the final four months of 2025.
In the letter, the Cypriot Permanent Mission says it wishes to draw the Secretary‑General’s attention to “a long list of violations of Cyprus’ national airspace, international air‑traffic regulations within the Nicosia FIR, the territorial waters of the Republic of Cyprus, and the illegal use of closed ports and airports.” The incidents, it says, were carried out by Turkish air and naval forces between September and December 2025.
According to the document, Cyprus recorded 921 air violations and 40 naval violations. Of the air incidents, 388 involved Turkish military drones and 151 involved armed fighter jets, the letter states. It also accuses Turkey of conducting “unauthorized military exercises” inside Cyprus’ national airspace.
