Reports of foot‑and‑mouth disease circulating for several days appear to be confirmed.

Following information from the Veterinary Services, police have begun taking statements from farmers and veterinarians at the units where cases were detected.

According to a police statement, farmers reported that animals at their units in Oroklini had shown symptoms for days. One unit noticed signs as early as Feb. 14, and another two days later.

Police stressed that failing to promptly notify the Veterinary Services about suspected foot‑and‑mouth symptoms constitutes an offense.

So far, three livestock units — one cattle farm in Livadia and two sheep‑and‑goat farms in Oroklini — have been placed under strict quarantine due to confirmed cases.

Farmers warn the risk of further spread remains high, saying measures were not taken in time to contain the virus.
