Cyprus’ Health Ministry has said that the risk to the general population in Europe from hantaviruses remains very low, while noting that the situation is being closely monitored by international and European health authorities.
The ministry said hantaviruses are a group of viruses transmitted mainly through contact with rodents such as mice and rats, or through exposure to contaminated particles in their environment.
Human‑to‑human transmission is described as extremely rare and not a typical route of spread.
Officials said the health system remains fully prepared, both in terms of laboratory capacity and the management of any potential cases.
