Two Bangladeshi migrants died after mistakenly drinking petrol during a boat journey from Libya to Greece, the Bangladesh Embassy in Athens said.
The group had gone without food for nearly two days and, in desperation, drank petrol believing it was water. Four others became seriously ill, including one who suffered kidney damage and required dialysis.
The embassy said it learned of the incident on Nov. 28 after being contacted by a hospital on Crete. Hospital officials reported about 40 Bangladeshis had departed Libya on Nov. 26 in a small boat bound for Greece.
