Jordanian authorities urged caution over gas heaters Friday after nine people died in two incidents in Zarqa during a cold spell.
Police said five members of one family — a mother and her children aged 11 to 14 — died Friday morning from respiratory distress caused by a leaking heater.
Late Thursday, four members of another family in the same governorate died after inhaling gas fumes, police said.
Rescue teams transferred the victims to Zarqa Government Hospital.
Civil Defense officials last week repeated warnings about improper heater use, stressing that long operation without ventilation can trigger fires, leaks or breathing problems.
